Katy, Texas Park and Community Center
Woodsland Park and Community Center in Katy, Texas, offers amenities to Katy residents as well as non-residents. The address where you can find this 8-acre park is 443 Danover Road, Katy, Texas. My husband and I saw an upended sign pointing the way to the park one day. Some road construction was taking place at the time of our visit. I am guessing by now that sign is probably upright.
Often parks such as Woodsland park are in the middle of urban areas with homes and businesses surrounding them. This particular park is more secluded. Adjacent homes only abut one portion of this park. Fencing between the houses and the park serves to separate the two entities. Verdant wooded areas and open lawn areas, along with the playground equipment and other amenities are on site. Most pleasing to my eyes are the tall trees and open grassy areas. Open to the imagination is how this delightful space can be enjoyed. I can imagine many gunny sack races taking place here, along with kite flying and other types of fun.
There is an outdoor pavilion with numerous picnic tables and a large barbeque grill. Reservations can be made to secure this space for an entire day. Other than the refundable deposit, there is no fee for Katy residents. Non-residents can obtain this excellent site for only $60 and have it for the entire day. There are several on-site playgrounds for little ones plus a large lighted basketball pavilion undercover. It had recently been raining on the first day of our visit to Woodsland Park, and we had the outdoor space for ourselves. Puddles of water on the ground captured reflections of what we were viewing.
There are 1,333 square feet of space inside the Woodsland Community Center building. It includes tables and chairs, indoor restrooms, a full kitchen, and plenty of open space for such things as meetings, fitness classes, etc. According to a parks and facilities page of a City of Katy website, this space can accommodate up to 100 people and is available to rent for parties, weddings, family reunions, and other events. Just like the outdoor pavilion, there is no fee for Katy residents except for deposits. People living outside the Katy, Texas area can rent this space for $40 per hour plus the deposits. Click on the highlighted link above to find out how to reserve these spaces as well as spaces in other Katy, Texas locations.
My husband and I were pleasantly surprised to find a framed piece with two images of art by Charles Criner. His art is represented in many places inside as well as far outside of the Houston Metro Area. When we visited him at The Printing Museum, where he is the resident artist, he did not know that his art was on the wall of the Woodsland Community Center. Consequently, we were happy to be able to tell him so.
If you live anywhere near Katy, Texas, be sure to check out this pleasing park and community center. As we were leaving, cars started pulling in to the parking area. A fitness class was about to begin.
