Love, Love, Love, It’s All About Love

Ruben Rojas truly believes in spreading the ideas of love, gratitude, respect, forgiveness, empowerment and more. His giant-sized murals grace city walls in many places across the U.S.A. as well as outside our beautiful country. All one needs to do is to go to his website and see the titles of his murals to see the words he expresses in colorful paint on buildings.  They include some of the following:

  • Always Believe Something Wonderful is About to Happen
  • You Are Beautiful!
  • Begin With Gratitude
  • You Belong Here
  • Just Do Good
  • Be Humble
  • Leave Nothing But Footprints

In the Houston Heights, we have the Ruben Rojas mural that says I AM LOVE.  It is located on the east side of the Adore Dentistry building at 540 W. 19th Street #A, Houston, Texas 77008. Those who regularly pick up spices and herbs from Penzeys can easily see it every time they shop there.  Also within view from that same location on West 19th Street is the eye-catching Beans Barton mural just down the street.  Those of us who live in Houston are the fortunate beneficiaries of more and more colorful walls like this Ruben Rojas one with the message of LOVE.

Beautify Earth

Ruben Rojas along with Evan Meyer started the nonprofit organization called  One of the goals of this organization and movement is the following:

“Putting an end to neglected walls by empowering artists, encouraging social responsibility and instilling community pride.”

Turning blank walls into a colorful canvas of sorts and using it to create positive messages can truly impact people’s lives.  This type of mural art can not only bring smiles to people’s faces, but it can also inspire and bring about change for the betterment of the community and even our planet.

Everyone needs encouragement at times and positivity can be contagious and have a ripple effect. Ruben Rojas has spread his gift of healing to those incarcerated in a California state prison setting. Click on the video below to learn more.

Economic Impact

Many businesses that choose to have the exteriors of their buildings painted with colorful murals notice an increase in foot traffic to their stores.  This makes sense.  People who spot intriguing murals on places like Silver Street Studios or the Lo-Fi Vintage Boutique are more likely to step inside and perhaps purchase items.

Muralist art can also help to alleviate eyesores or blight in urban areas.  In some cases in Houston, owners of buildings that are empty and which will eventually be torn down, have artists paint temporary murals or graffiti art on them.  One example is the Heights Post Office Building which also had a message of LOVE on it for a time. Like Ruben Rojas, the artist Wiley Robertson also aims to use that powerful word to bring about change. A second example is the Texas super-sized mural known as Preservons la Creation. You must see this mural to believe it! Until new structures take their place, we can enjoy this beautiful art and be inspired.

Public Art

Ruben Rojas is certainly doing his best to better people’s lives with his inspiring mural art. Bringing smiles to the faces of people and making them think better thoughts of themselves and the world is a worthy goal.  I hope that you will take a look around you and notice what artists like Ruben Rojas and others like him are accomplishing.  Do you feel inspired by art like this?  Please leave your comments below.

Just for fun, here is a music video that also speaks to the word LOVE.  Beatles fans will remember this one!
