Houston Auto Show 2018
The Houston Auto Show 2018 was terrific! They began exhibiting vehicles to Houstonians back in 1983 at the Astro Hall which is now called the NRG Center. It has grown over the years and offers people a chance to see vehicles of all different types and prices. One can also test drive cars at that location. The one pictured above is a KIA Stinger which was on a turntable inside of the NRG Center.
My husband and I decided to attend the Houston Auto Show this year to see some new model cars and have some fun at this annual event. Instead of going from one dealership to another, this was an opportunity to see more than 700 vehicles in one place and do some comparison shopping.
There were numerous vintage autos on display in the lobby as well as inside the 700,000+ square foot showroom of the NRG Center. My husband likes looking at older vintages as well as new ones. We have attended some car shows like the annual one at Towne Lake in Cypress to look at well preserved older vehicles.
January 24th to the 28th were the dates for this year’s auto show. We knew enough to wear comfortable shoes because there would be lots of walking entailed in viewing this massive show. After we exited the car show, we walked around the Astrodome where we spotted, and I got to photograph some beautiful western sculptures. So we accumulated some miles of walking that day!
Many Automakers Participate
Forty of the world’s automakers participated in this show. Some of them included the following manufacturers: Volvo, Acura, Volkswagen, Alfa Romeo, Subaru, Aston Martin, Toyota, Audi, Ram, BMW, Porsche, Buick, Nissan, Chevrolet, MINI, Chrysler, Mercedes Benz, Dodge, McLaren, Fiat, Maserati, Ford, Mazda, Genesis, Lotus, GMC, Lincoln, Honda, Lexus, Hyundai, Lamborghini, Infiniti, Land Rover, Jaguar, JEEP and Kia.
There was plenty of eye candy at this car show! The 2003 Aston Martin is collector owned with only 1,356 miles on it. It was #50 of 99 built for the U.S. market according to a sign posted by this beauty. For those who like cars much like James Bond was known to drive, new ones were on display and could be purchased like the one pictured above for $203,950.00.
Houston Auto Show Camp Jeep
Camp Jeep was a fun exhibition to watch. The video below shows what it would have been like to have taken a ride through this obstacle course while inside one of their Jeep vehicles.
Camp Jeep was also one of many places in which one could sign up to win a car. My husband and I signed up to possibly win one of 3 different vehicles while attending this year’s Houston Auto show. People could also sign up to hopefully gain some Astros tickets. There will be some happy winning faces!
Astros Participate in Auto Show
January 26th, 2018 at the Honda exhibit, George Springer who is a Houston Astros outfielder and the 2017 World Series Most Valuable Player was there from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to sign autographs. Many of our Astros are continuing to do that in various places around town. Houston Astros fans continue to form long lines in anticipation of getting those autographs and getting to meet our ball players in person.
People were lining up to take photos next to this Star Wars figure, and Nissan Titan AT-M6 outfitted to appear as the truck with a powerful cannon as it appeared in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. At times the truck would seem to shudder, and groaning type sounds would emanate from it. You can see some of that in the video below.
Comparing the Autos
It was fun to get to check prices and to sit in many of these vehicles checking them out for comfort. Numerous people were taking advantage of doing some test driving on site. Dealers were even offering incentives for people to do that.
Spending Time There
There were plenty of chairs and tables where people could relax and even eat and drink. Numerous food vendors were on site. The show was open for 9 1/2 hours on Wednesday through Friday and even several hours longer on the weekend. So with everything going on both inside and outside, visitors could easily spend quite a bit of time there if desired.
Attending the 2018 Houston Auto Show was an eye-opening event and so much fun. If you did not get there to see it for yourself, hopefully, my photos and the videos gave you some idea of what it was like to attend this event. You can always plan to attend next year! The address of NRG Center is 1 NRG Pkwy., Houston, Texas 77054.
